Once upon a time in Wooster, Ohio a group of community members got together with the idea that there should be a place where local farmers, producers and artisans could connect with consumers looking for local products. With the dream of a community gathering space and a cooperative marketplace where folks could shop without the worry of GMO's and pesticides in their food and where most of the money would go directly back to the person who grew, baked or created it Local Roots was born.
Two years later with the mission in mind, Local Roots opened its second market in the basement of a building on South Street in Ashland, Ohio. From small beginnings the Ashland store grew and in 2019 Local Roots Ashland and Wooster parted ways so that each could better serve their own communities. With the mission of having a year round market filled with sustainable, fair trade and cooperatively produced goods and the continued support of local farmers, Ashland Roots was opened
Help us continue the work by joining our cooperative and supporting small farms in our community and beyond.

Once upon a time, in Wooster, Ohio, a group of teachers, bankers, scientists, farmers and others got together with the idea that there should be a place where local farmers, producers and artisans could connect with consumers looking for local goods... a co-operative marketplace where folks could shop and not worry about potentially dangerous GMOs and pesticides in their food...where seventy to eighty-two percent of the price tag for those safe and healthy foods would go directly back to the person who grew, baked or created them...a clean and pleasant place to get together and “cultivate community”. Local Roots Wooster was born!
Two years later, Ashland’s Local Roots began its life in the basement of a building on South Street. Starting out with only a couple of days a week, we have grown steadily and are now in our third location on Cleveland Avenue, in the building that used to be the old Peanut Bar.
Thanks to the tireless efforts of our employee and our volunteers, as well as support from our regular shoppers and members, we are open five days a week and going strong.
Today we still hold on to the idea that Ashlandians should have a place where they have access to fresh, healthy foods, locally made products and to people who care about their well-being and their community. We are proud to be that place! Come in and see what makes us so darn special!
